The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences comprises faculty from a broad range of scientific disciplines that are critical to the discovery and development of new drugs and therapies. Faculty research interests are focused on environmental health, cancer, infectious disease, cardiovascular disease, brain and behavioral health, and drug and vaccine delivery.
From the Chair
Our faculty are highly collegial and collaborative. They provide leadership within the College as well as the Health Sciences Center and the broader scientific community.
Our mission is to advance pharmaceutical sciences through research and the education and training of our professional, graduate and post-graduate students.
Highlights of Research: Our faculty are part of interdisciplinary teams and make key scientific contributions critical to the discovery and development of new drugs and therapies.
The UNM College of Pharmacy ranks 15th among 133 colleges of pharmacy in National Institute of Health (NIH) research funding in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy's (AACP) most recent national research rankings. Additionally, UNM ranked 17th in total extramural funding and 10th for Other Federal funding in the AACP rankings.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences' research funding growth over recent years is impressive. Eighty-two percent of the College's total FY17 research funding of over $9.53 million came from that department, with new funding encompassing $1.12 million of that figure.
Funding for these awards comes from the NIH, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the American Heart Association.
Highlights of Teaching: Our faculty are committed to providing outstanding educational experiences for both professional and graduate students. In addition to didactic teaching, faculty provide laboratory training and mentoring to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Highlights of Service: Our faculty provide leadership within the Health Sciences Center and the broader scientific community.
